WASHINGTON - American University women's soccer took an early lead and freshman goalkeeper Riley Molbury made a career-high 12 saves, but William & Mary pulled away in the second half for a 5-1 win on Sunday afternoon at Reeves Field. It was the final non-conference game for the Eagles, who will open Patriot League play at Army on September 19.

• Sophomore Natalia Croce sent a free kick into the box in the 35 minute that William & Mary goalkeeper Mia Tegeris came off her line to block.
• Tegeris wasn't able to hold onto it, and in the ensuing scramble, freshman Piper Garcia got a foot on it and sent it into the cage for a 1-0 American lead. The goal stood up to a lengthy review of whether it crossed the line, and the call was confirmed.
• The excitement was short-lived as the Tribe went immediately on offense after the restart and scored just 30 seconds after Garcia's goal.
• Paige Seitz passed to Capri Reyes on the right side, and Reyes then sent a crossing pass back to Seitz who sent the ball into the upper left past the fingers of a diving Molbury.
• The 1-1 score stood through the remainder of the half, despite the Tribe taking 15 first-half shots to American's two.
• William & Mary's shot edge was narrowed to 15-9 in the second half, but the Tribe made them count in the latter half of the period.
• Over 30 minutes of playing time passed between goals, but in the 67th minute, William & Mary's Ava Schultz sent in a long shot from the right that found the upper left corner for a 2-1 lead.
• Lindsay Wilson scored unassisted from outside the top of the box in the 77th minute for a 3-1 lead, and Seitz followed with her second goal a minute later with an assist from Kerys Palmer.
• In the 83rd minute, Ella Ledwith scored on a corner play with an assist from Wilson for the final score of 5-1.
• Molbury's 12 saves were divided equally by half, and including a couple of impressive punch-outs up and over the crossbar.
• Senior Bella Miller put three shots on goal for the Eagles including two in the final 12 minutes, but both were saved by Tegeris who finished with five saves in the contest.

• The Eagles' slate is wiped clean as they begin Patriot League play, starting off on the road at Army on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m.
