WEST POINT, N.Y. - American University women's soccer dropped its Patriot League opener on Saturday, 3-0 at Army West Point. The Eagles fell behind early and could not muster enough offensive opportunities to match the Golden Knights, who scored twice in six minutes in the second half to pull away.

How it Happened

• Army West Point junior Grace Pohlidal opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 19th minute. After the ball was sent out of the box, she corralled it and drove to the left, beating freshman goalkeeper Riley Molbury just inside the left post.

• The Black Knights outshot American 13-3 in the first half, but Molbury came up with three saves and the Eagles' defense kept the rest from reaching her.

• Senior Lauren Sanders had a chance to knot things at 1 in the 58th minute, but Army's junior goalkeeper Karalyn Dail made the first of her two saves in the match.

• Freshman Kamryn McWhinney doubled the Army lead in the 65 th minute. She dribbled around an AU defender and, from the left side of the box, beat Molbury to the far post.

• McWhinney netted her second just six minutes later off a scramble following an Army corner, making it 3-0 after Army requested a VAR review that overturned an offside call.
