WASHINGTON - American University women's soccer battled Lafayette through 70 scoreless minutes before a penalty kick proved to be the difference in a 1-0 loss to the Leopards on Saturday at Reeves Field. Freshman goalkeeper Riley Molbury made eight saves for the Eagles.

• Both teams created chances throughout the contest, testing both goalkeepers who each made a highlight-reel save.
• Three of Molbury's saves came during the final 15-minute stretch of the first half as the Leopards turned up the pressure, but AU's defense held strong and both teams went into halftime without a goal.
• Molbury made a diving save on a header in the 52nd minute, with that header coming on one of eight corners the Leopards earned in the game.
• In the 70th minute, sophomore Jayden Fisher sent a rocket into the high center of the Lafayette goal, but Catherine Apker pushed it up and over the crossbar to keep AU off the scoreboard.
• Just over a minute later, a foul by American in the box gave a penalty-kick chance to Lafayette, and Nadia Zaffanella made it count with her kick to the lower left corner. Molbury got a hand on it but couldn't push it out.
• Both keepers made one final save in the remaining time.
• Fisher finished with two shots on goal for AU, taking a team-high four total shots in the game.

• The Eagles will play their next two Patriot League games on the road, heading to Loyola Maryland on Wednesday, Sept. 30, and to Lehigh on Saturday, Oct. 4.
