Field Hockey Wins in Dominant Fashion Over Towson

WASHINGTON  –– Another prolific outing for American University field hockey saw five players score six goals–a brace for Jordan Reicher–in a win over Towson University on Sunday afternoon in Maryland.

Notable How It Happened
Two goals in the first period had momentum on the Eagles' side. Reicher scored on an assist from Kockx in the ninth minute, and in the 10th minute, first year Tromble tallied her first collegiate goal to double the lead.

In the second, Towson's Olivia Thunnissen scored in the 21st minute in an attempt to keep the Tigers from falling out of the competition. That scoreline would hold; American led 2-1 at the halftime break.

On an AU corner five minutes into the third period, the ball was rocketed toward goal by Willemse and a redirect by Reicher on the shot would add to the Eagles' lead. Less than a minute later, A. Huddleston sent one into the cage and American was quickly up 4-1.

Closing out the third, Willemse, assisted by Winkler and DuVarney, scored her goal from an American penalty corner, AU 5-1. The final goal would come from Morraye in the fourth period off Freeman's assist.

Towson recorded just a single shot in the second half, with Teagan Harmon stepping in to make the save and seeing that American won 6-1 on the road.

From Head Coach Jennings
"We are really happy for our second strong effort this weekend. We had some great finishing and contributions across all lines to find a way against a tough Towson team," noted head coach Steve Jennings. "We need to keep working hard and taking care of details so that we continue to grow each week."

Coming Up
The Eagles remain out on the road, starting their Patriot League campaign against Bucknell on Friday, Sept. 13 at 5 p.m.
