LOS ANGELES - Troy Elgersma has signed a professional contract with the LA Galaxy of Major League Soccer through the end of the 2026 MLS season. The former American University men's soccer midfielder is the 15
th player in program history to put pen to paper with an MLS club.
It's been a rapid climb in the professional ranks for Elgersma, as the 21-year-old signed with the Galaxy's reserve team, Ventura County FC of MLS Next Pro, in February. Less than two months later, he was named to the Galaxy's 18-man roster for its Concacaf Champions Cup Quarterfinal match on April 8. It wasn't long before Elgersma made his MLS debut on May 2, subbing on in the Galaxy's 1-1 draw against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Signing the MLS contract today, May 7, it took under four months for the Redlands, California to rise to the nation's top flight of the sport while playing in his home state.
Elgersma has appeared in seven matches (all starts) for Ventura County FC during the 2026 campaign, tallying two goals and one assist. Most recently, he found the back of the net in VCFC's match against Austin FC II on April 18.
The former AU captain completed one of the most accomplished careers in program history in 2025. He scored 15 goals and dished out 14 assists across 55 starts and 4,805 minutes, earning Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year award in 2024 and the Midfielder of the Year honor in 2025. A masterful distributor from the midfield, his 14 assists are 11th all-time in program history.
Elgersma's contract includes club options for the 2027 sprint season, the 2027-28 season, and the 2028-29 season.
