BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Sophomores
Kara Langbaum and
Zoe Rector, distance runners on the American University track team, have been named to the Women's Indoor Track & Field Academic All-Patriot League Team, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Boston University swept the Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards for the indoor track season, with Peace Omonzane earning the honor on the women's side and Karsen Vesty earning the honor on the men's side, an honor he also earned last outdoor season.
Langbaum and Rector have both been three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selections in their three semesters at American. For both athletes, this is their first time being named to the team.
At the Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend, both ran personal bests in their respective events. Langbaum ran a three-second PR of 2:16.37 in the 800 meters, cementing herself at seventh on AU's all-time list indoors. Rector knocked eight seconds off her 3k PR, running 10:12.09.
Langbaum, seeking a bachelor's degree in psychology, has a cumulative GPA of 3.94. Rector, seeking a bachelor's degree in Policy, has a cumulative GPA of 3.97, and earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in the fall.
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor. These honors recognize student-athletes who excel in their sport and the classroom.
