WASHINGTON - The American University Cheer and Dance Teams are set to compete at the 2026 National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) & National Dance Alliance (NDA) College Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida. Each team will compete in the preliminary competition on April 9 and aim to advance to finals on April 10.
The Cheer Team will be competing in All-Girl Intermediate Division I, which is the largest division at College Nationals. The team will perform a routine consisting of stunting, gymnastics, jumping, and dancing skills.
Cheer Team senior and captain Ashley Fainer emphasized how meaningful this competition is to the team. "Competing at NCA college nationals is the highlight of our season each year, and it is a privilege we never take for granted. Our team works so hard all season for this one moment, and it is so rewarding to experience the culmination of all our dedication, drive, and determination when we compete in Daytona Beach," Fainer said. "I am so lucky I get to enjoy this last Nationals with my AU Cheer family, and I can't wait to show everyone what we are capable of."
The Dance Team will be competing in the Division I Jazz competition, performing a routine featuring jazz-style choreography, turns, lifts, and jumps.
"Preparing for Nationals is always one of the most meaningful parts of our season because it's where months of hard work, growth, and trust really come together. There's such a special energy during this time, and it's incredible to see how much everyone invests in each other and in our team," said Dance Team senior and captain Jocelyn Ostrosky. "Getting the chance to compete in Daytona is something we're truly grateful for and never take for granted. As a senior and captain, it means everything to represent our program on a national stage, and we're proud to showcase the discipline, trust, and pride behind our team."
The American University Cheer and Dance Teams qualified to compete at the NCA & NDA College Nationals in September 2025, with each team earning a bronze bid to the competition for their performance at the qualifier camp. Over the last eight months, these student-athletes have worked to improve and perfect their routines in preparation for next week's competition.
