Three Pins and Two Major Decisions Boost Wrestling Over Morgan State, 38-10

WASHINGTON - Raymond Lopez, Caleb Campos, and RJ Robinson pinned their opponents in AU's dual meet against Morgan State on Sunday afternoon, contributing to a 38-10 victory over the Bears. JJ Peace and Jack Maida added major decisions for American, giving the Eagles five bonus point victories on the day.

Notable
  • Morgan State forfeited matches at 157, 184, and 285. 
  • JJ Peace slowly took control of the match at 125 against Julian Dawson, measuring out three opportunities to shoot for takedowns and executing. He landed one in each period, never trailing throughout the bout. 
  • Raymond Lopez defeated Jimmie Jones comfortably at 133, securing two takedowns before holding Jones to the mat in the third period to score his sixth pin of the year. 
  • At 141, Jack Maida broke a deadlock late in the second period, coming out on top of a long, grueling scramble for a takedown. He scored another in the third period and tacked on riding time for a hard-earned major decision. 
  • After AU lost three straight bouts at 149, 165, and 174, Caleb Campos and RJ Robinson closed out the dual with pins. 
  • Campos got on top of Bryce Phillips midway through the second period, turning his 4-3 lead into six points. 
  • Robinson was wrestling up a weight class at 197 and worked to gain a 9-1 advantage before securing a pin of Eric Washington Jr.  He turned him over with a minute remaining in the second frame, keeping his back to the mat for the fall. 
  • The Eagles are now 6-8 and 2-3 in EIWA duals.
