Men's Basketball Dominates at the Line in 75–57 Win at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Efficiency at the free throw line and disciplined ball control fueled a 75-57 road win at Bucknell for American University men's basketball on Wednesday. The Eagles went 25-for-31 from the stripe, forced 15 turnovers, and used an 11-2 second-half surge to pull away for good.

Notable
  • Freshman Madden Collins led a balanced offense with 16 points, finishing as the Eagles' high-scorer for the 10th time this season.
  • Junior Matt Mayock and freshman Kade Sebastian scored 10 points apiece, with both also tying for a team-high five rebounds.
  • The Eagles spent much of the game at the stripe, going 14-of-17 in the second half and 25-of-31 in the game.
  • AU's bench out-scored Bucknell's 31-6, getting major contributions from Collins, sophomore Wyatt Nausadis (seven points), and freshman Chris Eagan (eight points). Eagan went 6-for-7 at the line.
First Half
  • Sebastian hit two early triples in helping the Eagles jump out to an 8-0 lead.
  • Bucknell answered with a 9-0 run  for a three-point lead, 11-8 at the 15-minute mark.
  • The Bison matched that lead twice more, but the lead changed hands a number of times until the final six minutes.
  • Senior Geoff Sprouse hit his second triple at 5:53 to put AU on top 25-24, and the Eagles held a slim lead the rest of the way.
  • American's halftime lead of 36-30 matched its largest of the game.
  • The Eagles scored 11 first-half points at the free-throw line, and had seven different point-scorers led by Collins with eight.
Second Half
  • Bucknell made it a three-point game just over two minutes in, but could come no closer.
  • The Eagles used an 11-2 run for a 50-38 lead at 12:46, capped by a tip-in from Sebastian.
  • The Bison's Achile Spadone hit a three-pointer to bring Bucknell within five at the nine-minute mark, but AU scored seven unanswered points and led by at least 10 for the rest of the game.
  • Bucknell committed 14 second-half fouls to give AU plenty of trips to the line, and Spadone was ejected with 2:30 left after his second non-common foul.
  • Nausadis scored AU's only field goal after the eight-minute mark, draining a three at 2:12 for a 20-point lead.
