WEST POINT, N.Y. –– It was a difficult afternoon in Christl Arena for American University women's basketball when the Eagles took on Army on Saturday afternoon, falling 86-56.
Inside the Box Score
- Anna Rescifina finished the afternoon on top for American with 10 points on the outing, the senior guard was the only Eagle in double digits.
- Molly Driscoll capped out with nine points on the afternoon while Laura Nogues had eight points, along with a team-leading four assists and two steals.
- American relied more on bench points than it has for much of the season, scoring 30 from nonstarters. The Eagles did well down low, earning 32 points in the paint to Army's 36. Army scored 27 off 19 AU turnovers and had 14 second-chance points.
- Camryn Tade led for the Black Knights with 22 points. Reese Ericson followed with 21. Kya Smith had 17 points and led all players with 11 boards. Army shot 52 percent from three point range with 13 made threes.
How it Happened
- Army jumped out quick, up 6-0 through the first three minutes with six rebounds to American's two before Ellie Pingree grabbed a layup to put the Eagles on the board.
- Midway through the first frame, AU was down nine, 13-4; Ericson has nine points already for the Black Knights while Tade had three rebounds. Ericson was 3-of-4 from beyond the arc and would go 4-of-5 quickly to pick up 12 points.
- Through one, the Black Knights were leading 20-11. Rescifina, with her four points was leading American at the first period break.
- The tide stayed on Army's side, the Black Knights leading 29-16, holding a 14 point lead. Army was shooting 50 percent from the floor and 50 percent from three with five made treys in the opening 15 minutes. American shot 36.8 percent and was only 1-of-6 from three-point range.
- As time in the first half crept down, the Eagles went on a four-minute scoreless period, the Black Knights scoring four during that time.
- Halftime had the Black Knights leading 35-20 over the Eagles. Army also had a 22-11 rebounding lead over AU.
- Charlotte Tuhy, AU's top rebounder on the season, didn't pick up her first rebound of the game until the beginning of the second half. The Eagles reduced the deficit to 11 when Camryn Tade and Tuhy traded threes, AU down 40-29 with six to play in the third.
- Through three, Army was maintaining control of the game, up 61-39. Three Black Knights were in double digits: Ericson (18), Tade (17) Smith (12).
- Rescifina led with 10 for AU, while Nogues and Driscoll each had seven. Six of Nogues' points came over the final four minutes of the third with a layup, a free throw, and a trey.
- Army charged even further ahead in the final frame, extending their lead to 81-49 with five to play for, outscoring the Eagles 20-10 in the opening half of the period. The Black Knights were a perfect 3-of-3 from three-point range and was 12-of-24 overall from distance.
- The Eagles would be unable to fight back, ultimately falling 86-56 to Army on the road. Army would sweep the regular season series.
On the Horizon
The Eagles squad will be back in Bender for a two-game stint, first, hosting Bucknell on Wednesday, Feb. 18 and then Lafayette on Saturday, Feb. 21.
