14 Three-Pointers Take Lehigh To Dominant Win Over Women’s Basketball

WASHINGTON - An 18-0 first-quarter run proved decisive as American women's basketball fell to Lehigh on Wednesday, with the Mountain Hawks maintaining control to stay in contention for Patriot League Tournament home court advantage.

Inside the Box Score
  • The sophomore duo of Madisyn Moore-Nicholson and Molly Driscoll led the way for the Eagles with 15 and 13 points respectively. Driscoll led the team in field goal percentage, getting 6-of-10 attempts to fall.
  • Freshman Charlotte Tuhy led the team with seven rebounds, five of which came in the first quarter.
  • Despite the final score, the Eagles bested the Mountain Hawks in bench points (15-8), equaled them in rebounds at 29 a piece, and scored nearly the same number of points in the paint.
  • With all the physicality on paper, Lehigh still pulled away in second chance points, scoring 19 versus just five for American.
  • Another huge difference maker was three-pointers, with the Mountain Hawks draining 14 compared to just three for the Eagles.
How It Happened
  • After a 4-0 start by the Eagles, the Mountain Hawks scored 18 unanswered in the next 5:31 of play, forcing six turnovers in the process.
  • The aforementioned five defensive rebounds by Tuhy in the first quarter allowed the Eagles to slow down Lehigh's scoring.
  • Driscoll came through with five quick points in the first quarter, weaving through the Lehigh defense for a layup with 13 seconds left to make the score 12-24 advantage Mountain Hawks.
  • Late in the second quarter, Lehigh went on a 7-0 run, holding the Eagles scoreless for almost four minutes. AU went into the break trailing 24-44.
  • The second half started with an 8-0 run by the Mountain Hawks; the visiting team continued to run past the Eagles with their deep shooting.
  • The rest of the half saw the Mountain Hawks handily maintain control, winning the game with a final score of 79-51.
