BETHLEHEM, Pa. – As the American University volleyball team continues to roll through Patriot League play, the individual distinctions keep coming as well.
Salme Hollas was named this week's PL Player of the Week, and
Bella Marrero followed with her third straight Defensive Player of the Week recognition.
Hollas went for 24 kills, 15 digs, and two blocks on AU's 2-0 weekend, helping the Eagles sweep Colgate and Bucknell. She caught fire against the Raiders on Friday night, hitting .448 with 15 kills. Over the two matches, she hit .328 and averaged 4.67 points per set to lead the team's offensive effort.
Marrero continues to stifle opposing offenses, keeping the ball off the floor with 32 digs on the weekend. She led a defensive charge that held Colgate and Bucknell to a combined .151 hitting percentage, while adding nine assists and four aces. The junior libero was especially impactful against the Bison, logging 19 digs as the Eagles allowed just 29 kills in Lewisburg—their third-fewest this season.
American is back in action this weekend, quickly playing a second match against Colgate in Hamilton, N.Y. on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 4 p.m.
