EASTON, Pa. –– Starting off a road stretch in Easton, American women's basketball fended off a pesky Lafayette squad and pulled away to earn a 70-60 win from Kirby Sports Center on Saturday afternoon.

- Once again, it was Molly Driscoll who led American. The sophomore guard capped off the afternoon with 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting. She stuffed her stat sheet with five rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block.
- Grace Koepke saw season-highs in points (19) and rebounds (seven), and picked up a career-high three assists. Her 19 points were two shy of her career high. Laura Nogues with her season-high nine points on 4-of-6 shooting was another offensive hot spot for AU. Nogues picked up five assists, and two steals.
- Charlotte Tuhy led on the glass again, topping all players on both teams with 15 rebounds. She also tallied nine points.
- Bench points, one of the sources of AU's struggles this season, saw the Eagles tally up 32 points from nonstarters. Leading LAF with its 14.
- Another upgraded stat was AU's points in the paint; the team scored 16 against Loyola on Wednesday and improved to 36.
- Teresa Kiewiet and Haylie Adamski were the top performers for Lafayette, finishing the afternoon with 16 and 15 points respectively.
How it Happened
- American got off to a slow start offensively, taking two shots in the opening two minutes, but on the other end, forcing Lafayette, one of the league's most efficient offenses, into 1-of-5 shooting to open the game.
- With five minutes gone in the first, the teams were tied five-all, Salazar and Koepke with baskets for the Eagles.
- AU pushed ahead, coming out of the midway timeout and scoring six within a minute to take an 11-6 lead. Lafayette fought back, making it a two-point game, but American pushed on and finished the first quarter up 17-13.
- Zurinskas was leading all players with eight points, Koepke and Driscoll each had five for American.
- Driscoll sank her third triple of the game early in the second quarter, tallying her 11th point, and putting the Eagles up, 25-16. American was carrying its lead, helped by Koepke with her seven points, five rebounds, and three assists.
- With 20 minutes gone and played, the Leopards closed the gap, the teams trading threes to end the first half, with AU finishing the battle on top, taking a 34-33 lead into the locker room. Driscoll led all players with 14 and was on 4-of-7 shooting from three point range.
- American shot 40.6 percent overall and 38.5 percent from three in the first half while Lafayette 37.5 percent in from the floor and 33.3 from three point range.
- Lafayette grabbed hold of the lead, 38-36, on a three-pointer from Haylie Adamski at the 7:45 mark of the third, and from then on, it was a back-and-forth battle. The Eagles tied it up at 38-all and then 40-all before taking the 45-40 lead at the 4:38 mark.
- Nogues, who finished the first half with two points, added five more on 3-of-4 shooting, including a triple, to aid in the upward trend. Adamski drilled another three though, and at the media timeout with four minutes to play in the third, it was AU 45, LAF, 43.
- The Eagles had a five point, 49-44, lead but an and-1 play from Kiewiet finished off the third and AU was up by two, 49-47.
- The Leopards, on a three pointer from Adamski, took a 55-54 lead over American with six minutes to play. Adamski was on 15 points. Kiewiet grabbed another basket for the Leopards, and the Eagles were down, 57-54, before Koepke added a layup with 4:40 to go to make it a one-point game.
- Nogues would tie it all up at 58-all, and when Koepke's layup with 2:24 to play put American back up three, 61-58, the Leopards called a timeout to try and change the tides.
- Adamski was issued her fourth foul with 1:52 to play and put Driscoll on the line for an automatic point. It was American by four, 64-60. The lead was extended by two thanks to Koepke, and with 28.3 second to play. American held a six-point lead and possession.
- Four Tuhy free-throws added to the tally, and American capped the week with a 70-60 win over Lafayette.

American will remain on the road to take on Bucknell in Lewisburg on Wednesday, Feb. 4.
