McGovern, Crosby Earn Multiple Wins for Swimming & Diving at Navy Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed for the final time at the Navy Invitational before returning to Annapolis for the Patriot League Championships in just 18 days. Senior Isabel McGovern and sophomore Piper Crosby combined for three individual wins and were both part of one relay win as well.

Notable Results
  • Crosby, McGovern, and sophomores Grace Gilbert and Marin Priddy started the meet strong with a narrow second-place finish in the 200 free relay behind Bucknell. But the quartet's best result of the afternoon came later in the 200 medley relay, when they took first over Navy by just 0.22 seconds.
  • McGovern won the 100 fly in 55.70, not far off of her winning time at the Patriot Invitational in November. She also finished second in a tightly-packed 100 free in 51.58.
  • Crosby stepped out of her usual lineup to win the 200 back with a personal best of over five seconds at 2:04.71, a time that ranks 14th all-time at AU.
  • Gilbert and Priddy combined for three top-eight finishes, with Priddy finishing eighth in the 100 free, and going a personal best for seventh in the 100 back, while Gilbert took seventh in the 50 free (24.41), giving the Eagles a strong sprint freestyle group heading into PLs.
  • Two more high finishes came from senior Veronica Lester and junior Kate Williams, as Lester finished fourth in the 200 fly in 2:11.22, and Williams swam a new personal best of 1:53.99 to get eighth in a competitive 200 free.
  • The best individual finish on the men's side came from freshman Matias Garcia, who finished eighth in the 100 back in 52.39.
  • Freshman Van Paul was ninth in the 100 breast in 58.25, less than four-tenths of a second off his personal best.
  • This was the last swim meet for the careers of Lester and seniors Colin Jue, Kai O'Malley, and Dylan Moulton, marking the end of an incredibly resilient chapter in each of their lives.
