What to Know About American
- American's three wins in a row have all come via a 1-0 score and gritty defending, holding clean sheets for the first time this season.
- The Eagles' latest triumph came against UNCW on Tuesday. Mustapha Sowe broke the deadlock early in the second half, finishing off a sharp assist from freshman Finn O'Brien.
- Shortly after the goal, lightning paused the action with just 14 minutes remaining in the match. When play resumed, freshman keeper Evan Tubbs stole the spotlight. He tallied three saves down the stretch, including a diving stop in the 89th minute to deny the equalizer and seal the win for the Eagles.
- With back-to-back shut outs against Colgate and Loyola Maryland prior to the UNCW match, American sits atop the Patriot League standings.
- Elgersma has been AU's' spark on the attack, pacing the squad in goals (three) shots (11), and shots on goal (five). He's been dangerous as a distributor from the midfield as well, consistently playing quality balls in the attacking third for his teammates.
- Between the posts, Matthew Tibbetts has been a steady anchor for the Eagles. The senior has recorded shutouts against both Patriot League opponents so far, raising his season save percentage to 76%, good for fifth in the conference.
- Defensive discipline has been a highlight of AU's win streak, as the Eagles have not conceded a yellow card in the past three matches. They've also committed the fewest fouls in the PL with 59, and just seven per game.
- The Eagles are undefeated home this season, posting a 2-0-1 record at Reeves Field.
