WASHINGTON - For his game-winning goal in American University men's soccer's Patriot League opener, senior Sebastian Garces has been named the Eagle of the Week for the week of Sept. 8-14. Garces scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory for the Eagles against Colgate.

Just 20 seconds into the second half, teammate Mustapha Sowe laid the ball off for Garces who sent a long strike from outside the top left of the box that sailed into the center of the goal for a 1-0 lead in the 46th minute of the contest. It would prove to be the only goal of the game, though Garces had another shot on goal to the low right that was saved in the 59th minute. The goal for Garces was his first of the season and second of his career.

The Eagles play their first Patriot League road game at Loyola Maryland on Friday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m.
