Volleyball Hosts Navy Friday, Heads to Loyola Sunday

WASHINGTON - The American University volleyball team will have home court advantage for the first half of this weekend's slate, hosting Navy on Friday night and traveling to Loyola Maryland on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles are 1-1 in Patriot League play after picking up their first conference win over Army at Bender Arena last Saturday.

Series History
  • AU leads the all-time series 36-8 over Navy, but most recently lost to the Midshipmen in five sets at home on Nov. 9, 2024. 
  • The Eagles trailed two sets to none, coming up short of the reverse sweep in the final frame. 
What to Know About American
  • The Eagles are coming off a 1-1 weekend, bouncing back from a five-set loss to Colgate last Friday with a 3-1 win over Army on Sunday. 
  • AU went punch-for-punch with the defending conference champions, losing the final two sets by just two points. A double-double from Sophie Dufour led the way, and Prinzez Zeck had a career-high 14 kills and just four errors to hit .370.
  • Salme Adeele Hollas added a double-double of her own against Army in AU's return to the win column, notching 14 kills and 15 digs. 
  • After dropping the first set to the Black Knights, the Eagles responded in commanding fashion to take three in a row. AU had 10 service aces to just four for Army, doubled the visitors total in blocks with 10, and committed just four reception errors as a team.
  • Elise Sterling was excellent for the Eagles all weekend, posting 22 kills with a .439 hitting percentage. 
  • The freshman Dufour has taken the conference by storm, earning PL Rookie of the Week for a third straight time. She ranks second in kills (167), kills per set (3.80), points (188) and points per set (4.27). 
  • Zeck has led the Eagles up front, pacing the team in blocks (42), and climbing up to sixth in the PL in that category. 
  • Sophomore libero Bella Marrero has been consistently reliable for AU, taking on 200 digs and averaging 4.55 per set. Fellow sophomore Deniz Dakak has proven to be one of the top setters in the PL, leading the conference in assists with 438 and 9.95 per set. 
  • Freshman Alex Ioannou is second in the country in service aces, totaling 33 on the year so far. 
  • The Eagles are hitting a conference-leading .276 as a team, while also holding their opponents to a league-low .178.

  • Adult: $15
  • Youth (4-14)/Senior (65+): $10
  • Children ages three (3) and under are not required to have a ticket to enter. If attending without a ticket, they must sit on the lap of an accompanying adult. All children ages three (3) years or older must have a ticket.
  • All AU Undergraduate, Graduate and Washington College of Law Students receive FREE admission to regular season athletic events with your AU ID. Military and Veterans will receive the same rate as youth and seniors.
