Eagles Ace Patriot League Test Against Boston U.

BOSTON, Mass. –– After a three-game scoring drought, the Eagles of the American University field hockey team started the Patriot League season off on the right foot, topping the Terriers of Boston University 2-0 on Friday evening.

  • Jordan Reicher and Agustina Roffo were American's two goal scorers on the evening. The junior and senior duo lead American with three and four goals respectively on the season.
  • Freshman Lotti Süme tallied two assists in the contest; these are the defender's first two points of her collegiate career.
  • Pauline Gineste matched her career high of eight saves on eight shots faced. Gineste's BU counterpart Sophie Ortyl also recorded eight saves in the contest.
How It Happened
The action took place after the game went scoreless through the opening period.
 
Right before halftime, at the 28:46 mark of the first half. On a corner, Süme's sweeping shot was diverted by Reicher into the cage to score the Eagles' first goal in over 240 minutes of gameplay. AU led 1-nil at the break.
 
Ten minutes out of halftime, the Eagles earned a corner, and in much the same style as their first goal, a shot from Süme at the top of the circle was deflected in, this time by Roffo who double the tally and put AU up 2-nil.
 
Between four and three minutes to play, the Terriers earned six penalty corners in quick succession, but big time saves from Gineste and a big block from Sarah Steinman kept the clean sheet and American won their first matchup of the 2025 Patriot League season 2-nil.
