What to Know About American
  • After a full season away from their home field, the Eagles are looking for their first win on the newly-renovated Reeves Field after dropping a tight, 1-0 contest last week against GW.
  • The Eagles dropped another close contest, 2-1 at Longwood, despite a huge second-half push and the first goal of the season, scored by sophomore Nariah Goldman.
  • In her fifth season at the helm in 2024, head coach Marsha Harper led the Eagles to a 6-6-3 overall record—the program's most victories since 2019.
  • American went 4-1-1 in non-conference action last season, marking the best record since 1986. That start included a string of three straight victories, including a pair of 2-0 shutouts.
  • Team MVP honors went to sophomore defender Bella Vozar, who scored two goals and started in all 15 games.
  • Seniors Eliza Fisher and Avery Klingensmith both started in all of the Eagles' games in 2024, while grad student Jennifer McGuire and senior Phoebe Merrigan made 13 starts each.
  • American earned an impressive total of nine Patriot League Weekly Awards last year, led by freshman Addison Roemer who was named Goalkeeper of the Week twice and Rookie of the Week once. Roemer started in all 14 games played, making 39 saves and finishing with a record of 6-4-2.
What to Know About VCU
  • VCU is off to a 0-1-1 start under first-year head coach Lauryn Hutchinson, an alum for the Rams. One of her assistants is Matt Freibaum, also a VCU alum, who coached at American under Marsha Harper for the past five seasons.
  • Junior Vivian Vendt scored the first goal of her career in the Rams' 1-1 tie against Elon in their season opener. VCU took 18 shots in that match, and a save for Mia Pongratz in the 89th minute preserved the tie.
  • Most recently, the Rams faced off against #14 Virginia Tech and lost 5-1. Freshman Tatum Scialdone scored her first career goal in that contest.
  • VCU is coming off a 4-9-5 season in 2024. The Rams lost 1-0 to Dayton in the Atlantic 10 quarterfinals to close out the year.
  • Two-time All-Atlantic 10 midfielder Kanna Matsuhisa, who scored seven goals for the Rams in 2024, was lost to graduation for VCU. Back for the Rams is senior midfielder Y-Van Nguyen, who scored a pair of goals to rank second on the team last season.
