WASHINGTON - Longwood spoiled the American University women's soccer team's 2026 home opener on Sunday afternoon, handing the Eagles a 3-0 loss at Reeves Field. AU will play two more at home as part of a three-game homestand, but with 10 days off until its next contest against UNC Greensboro.
How it Happened
- Longwood led 1-0 at halftime after a 30th-minute goal from Peyton Curney who scored into the top right corner of the cage with a well-placed kick from the top of the box.
- The Lancers added their second tally in the 60th minute when their first shot rebounded off the crossbar and McKenna Vogel was there to slip it past American goalkeeper Riley Molbury.
- Less than two minutes later, Longwood scored its third and final goal on a corner, with Madison Fitzpatrick heading it in off the assist from Summer Toone.
- Sophomore Natalia Croce had a chance for AU with a free kick in the 64th minute, but the long try was collected by Longwood's goalkeeper Brynn Clagett.
- Molbury finished with four saves for the Eagles, who were out-shot 21-2 overall.
