WASHINGTON – The second of three straight home contests will match American University women's soccer with UNC Greensboro at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3. The Eagles come in looking for their first win after three losses and a draw to start the 2026 season, while the Spartans enter Thursday's game at 2-2-1 overall.

- Fans can now head over to the concessions stand inside the newly-completed Meltzer Center for food, snacks, and Pepsi beverages.
- Fans 21+ and over can purchase alcohol on the second floor at the Meltzer Terrace.
What to Know About American
- AU is under the direction of first-year head coach Phil Casella who previously spent nine years as the head coach at Wagner College, leading the Seahawks to a Northeast Conference Championship in 2025.\
- AU's co-captains for 2026 are seniors Bella Miller (forward) and Bella Vozar (defender). Vozar started in all 17 games last season, while Miller returned from injury to play in the final eight games of the season.
- The Eagles have 10 freshmen on a roster of 29, and Casella expects many of them to make an immediate impact. Freshman Riley Molbury has played every minute in goal so far, averaging 5.5 saves per contest.
- AU opened its season with three straight road games (La Salle, UMBC, Richmond), dropping contests at La Salle and UMBC by a score of 2-1 before earning a 1-1 draw at Richmond.
- Seniors Lauren Sanders and Bella Miller have both scored penalty kick goals for AU, while junior Mia De Villegas-Decker scored the Eagles' goal at Richmond.
- Most recently, American dropped a 3-0 decision to Longwood at home on August 23.
What to Know About UNC Greensboro
- The Spartans opened 2026 with a 1-0 victory over rival High Point, marking their first season-opening win since 2023. After a loss and two ties, they earned a 3-0 win vs. Radford on August 30.
- UNCG concluded the 2025 season 4-12-3 overall and 2-4-3 in The Southern Conference (SoCon). The Spartans posted five shutouts and scored 22 goals, which was the most since the 2022 season.
- The Spartans were voted to finish seventh in the 2026 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning 43 points. Senior midfielder Rina Ogimoto was named to the 2026 SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team.
- The Spartans added nine newcomers this season. Freshman goalkeeper Blythe Clark has started and played all 450 minutes to start the season, totaling 13 saves and allowing eight goals.
- Sophomore Laney Smith is leading the Spartans' offense with six points on two goals and two assists. Sophomore Madison Bass has two goals for UNCG, while sophomore Abby Cover, junior Bryanna Parkes, and freshman Magdalena Krug have all scored a goal each so far this season.
Series History
- UNC Greensboro won the only prior meeting between the teams, 2-0 back in 1991.
