LEWISBURG, Pa. - The career gold medal count for graduate student
Mimi Watts of American University swimming & diving is up to seven after Watts won the women's 100 fly at the Patriot League Championships for a second time. That's two golds in two days for Watts, and the Eagles had two other A finalists as well as 13 total B and C finalists on day three of the championships.
Notable Women's Results
- Watts out-touched Army's Angie McKane by an incredible four one-hundredths of a second for the 100 fly win in 53.22.
- Last year, Watts took silver in the same event after winning gold in 2023. She is now poised to repeat her performance in 2023 of three individual gold medals in three days, as she will swim in the 100 free on Saturday.
- Watts had posted the second-fastest time in the 100 fly prelims of 53.70, which was a season-best for her until the finals.
- The leadoff leg of the women's 200 free relay was Watts in 23.11, and she was followed by Lian Jeong Engle, Marin Priddy, and Piper Crosby. The foursome placed fifth in 1:33.36, the third-best time in program history.
- Isabel McGovern advanced to the C final in the 100 fly with a time of 56.33, and finished 21st overall.
- With a time of 55.24, Crosby advanced to her first career A final in the 100 back, placing third in the field of 37. She took fifth place in the finals, adding just over a tenth of a second with a time of 55.35.
- Amaya Tomma was also a finalist in the 100 back, making it to the B final with a 16th-place time of 57.25. Tomma finished in 16th overall with a finals time of 57.38.
- Katie Yoo and Brooke Vos placed 16th (4:31.84) and 17th (4:32.83) in the prelims of the 400 IM, with Yoo making it to the B final and Vos advancing to the C final. Both swimmers went 4:30.86 in their respective finals, finishing 15th (Yoo) and 17th (Vos) overall.
- Jeong Engle was a B finalist in the 200 free in 1:52.62, while Kate Williams advanced to the C final with a PR of 1:54.63. Jeong Engle placed 16th overall, and Williams was 24th.
- Priddy placed 13th in the prelims of the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.80, and went on to post a PR of 1:04.71 in the finals to improve on her own seventh-place standing at AU.
- Right behind Priddy in the prelims was junior Jordan Carpentieri in 14th with a PR of 1:05.33 that improves upon her own 10th-place standing on the Top 16 list. Carpentieri took 14th in the finals as well.
- Grace Netz was a C finalist in the 100 breast in 1:05.89, and dropped that down to 1:05.15 in the finals for 18th place overall.
Notable Men's Results
- The Eagles' 200 free relay team of Colin Clough, Charlie St. Louis, Connor Florence, and Aidan Delehanty, placed eighth in a season-best time of 1:22.34 that ranks sixth-best all-time.
- Clough, coming off a school-record finish in the 50 free a day ago, posted a lifetime-best 53.83 in the prelims of the 100 breaststroke, just six-hundredths of a second off the school record time of 53.77 set by Dominick Szabo in 2003. Clough's time placed him in sixth in the prelims, and that was where he finished in the A finals as well, with a time of 54.38.
- Henry Harrison was a C finalist in the 100 breast prelims, and won the C final with his second PR of the day, 55.96. That moves him into fifth place all-time on AU's top 16 list, and he placed 17th overall in the event.
- Also advancing to the C final was Will Deitch with a time of 57.43. Deitch improved to 56.77 in the night swim for 20th overall, just four-tenths of a second off his PR.
- Lucas Standridge was a C finalist in the 200 free in 1:40.36, and got his time down to 1:39.82 in the finals. Both were just short of his PR (1:39.79) that has him in sixth all-time at AU.
