CHARLOTTESVILLE - The American University wrestling team was defeated by the Virginia Cavaliers in a dual meet on the road on Sunday afternoon, falling 30-8. The loss drops AU's overall record to 9-9 with three duals remaining this season. 

Notable

• Today's dual began at 157, and Jack Nies got AU an opening five points with a technical fall of UVA's Gavin Cagle. The redshirt senior dominated the bout, securing four takedowns on his way to a 21-4 final score at 6:08. 
• The Cavaliers got five points back right away when Nick Hamilton forced a technical fall of Liam Packer, 23-5 at 5:00. 
• UVA rattled off three more wins in a row, with Rocco Contino and Justin Phillips earning decisions over Caleb Campos and Lucas White, and Liam Volk-Klos fell via major decision to Etahn Weatherspoon 17-9.
• #32 Will Jarrell stopped the bleeding for AU with some clutch wrestling against Gabe Christenson. Trailing 2-1 in the third period, the graduate senior recorded an escape and a takedown to take the lead with just 42 seconds remaining. The 5-2 victory gave Jarrell his 19th of the year, surpassing Maximillian Leete for the team lead. 
• JJ Peace battled with #32 Keyveon Roller at 125, falling 12-10 in a back-and-forth bout that saw him record two takedowns. The freshman has a 13-6 overall record in his first season of collegiate wrestling, and is 3-3 in duals. 
• Raymond Lopez, Cael McIntyre, and Gage Owen were defeated in their bouts, ending the dual with a 30-8 victory for UVA.
