WASHINGTON – Colin Martin of American University wrestling has been named EIWA Wrestler of the Week following his dominant showing at the Chippewa Challenge on Sunday, Nov. 1. The sophomore 133-pounder scored two major decisions to lead the Eagles to a 2-0 showing at the tri-meet, including a 15-3 win over #28 Andrew Austin of Central Michigan for his first career victory over a ranked opponent.
This year's Chippewa Challenge included both Central Michigan and the host school CSU Bakersfield, with AU first taking on CMU. Martin ambushed the fifth-year wrestler with a takedown and five nearfall points in the first period, then added a reversal and another takedown later on to cruise to the major decision.
Martin wrestled Bakersfield's Saxton Scott in the next dual, winning 8-0 to round out the impressive day.
The Eagles are back in action this Sunday, Nov. 8 at the Averett Open.
