BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The first Patriot League weekly honor of the season for American University men's basketball belongs to freshman guard
Madden Collins, named PL Rookie of the Week after the Eagles' wins over Drexel and UMES on December 3 and 6.
Collins came off the bench for a team-high 19 points in a 75-73 comeback win over Drexel, also pulling down five boards in the contest. Three days later he scored nine points off the bench in a 78-60 win over UMES, again adding five rebounds. He had three steals and three assists for the week with zero turnovers.
Overall, Collins led AU with 14.0 points per game for the week, and ranked second with his 5.0 rebounds per game. For the season, Collins leads American with 13.3 points per game, and his 1.7 steals per game leads the team and ranks fifth in the Patriot League.
Junior Matt Mayock earned Patriot League Honorable Mention honors for the week after averaging 13.5 points per game and shooting 62.5 percent from the floor.
PATRIOT LEAGUE PENFED CREDIT UNION MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Austin Benigni, Navy, Sr., G, The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands Christian Academy
*Benigni 18.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists to lead Navy to an undefeated week with wins over Delaware State (66-59) and Air Force (61-56).
*The Preseason Patriot League Player of the Year scored 23 of his 25 points in the second half and added seven rebounds and five assists in the Mids' victory over the Falcons.
*He finished with 12 points, five boards and four assists in Wednesday's win over the Hornets.
PATRIOT LEAGUE PENFED CREDIT UNION MEN'S BASKETBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Madden Collins, American, Fr., G, Columbia, S.C./Christ School
*Collins led the Eagles, averaging 14.0 points and 5.0 rebounds off the bench in victories over Drexel (75-73) and UMES (78-60).
*The freshman guard scored a team-high 19 points and grabbed five boards in a comeback victory over the Dragons on Wednesday.
*He finished with nine points and five rebounds in a reserve role to help the Eagles' defeat UMES for their third straight win. Â

Matt Mayock, American, Jr., G, Berwyn, Pa./The Westtown School
*Mayock averaged 13.5 points while connecting at a .625 clip (10-of-16) from the floor, including .710 from 3-point range (5-of-7) to help the Eagles go 2-0 last week, with wins over Drexel (75-73) and UMES (78-60).
Michael McNair, Boston University, Jr., G, Temecula, Calif./Linfield Christian
*McNair posted 19.5 ppg and 6.5 rpg, shooting 54.5 percent (12-of-22) from the field and 66.7 percent (10-of-15) from deep. He scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed eight boards in an 88-82 overtime loss against New Hampshire.
Gabe Warren, Holy Cross, Jr., G/F, Plano, Texas/John Paul II
*Warren posted 18.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 1.5 assists and 1.0 block per game to help the Crusaders go 2-0 last week with wins over Northeastern (76-59) and Fordham (70-69). He scored a career-high 25 points, hitting 6-of-7 from beyond the arc, and grabbed eight rebounds in a 16-point comeback win over the Rams on Saturday.
Caleb Williams, Lafayette, So., G, Jacksonville, Fla./Jean Ribault
*Williams scored 23 points, connecting on 6-of-9 shots from 3-point range, to go with four assists and two boards in the Leopards' 79-71 win over Mercyhurst on Friday.
Nasir Whitlock, Lehigh, Jr., G, Brooklyn Park, Minn./DeLaSalle
*Whitlock averaged 21.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals in two games. He finished with 21 points, five rebounds and five assists in an 80-71 loss against Binghamton. He scored 22 points, shooting 9-of-9 from the charity stripe in an 87-82 loss against LIU.
