Hot-Shooting George Washington Defeats Men’s Basketball

WASHINGTON (Smith Center) - American University men's basketball fell on the road Wednesday night, dropping a 107–67 decision to George Washington. The Eagles were unable to slow the Revolutionaries' hot shooting, as GW hit 15 of 28 three-point attempts and held a 46–21 advantage on the boards.

Notable Numbers
  • Leading the Eagles in scoring was junior Greg Jones with 14 points and sophomore Wyatt Nausadis with 13.
  • American was whistled for 22 team fouls to GW's 12, and made just 4-of-8 free throws compared to 26-of-33 for the Revs.
  • Junior Matt Mayock posted nine points on 4-of-7 shooting, while a trio of players—Geoff Sprouse, Carson McDonald, and Madden Collins—scored eight points for AU.
  • Seven players reached double figures in scoring for GW, led by Tre Dinkins who posted 23 points and hit 7-for-9 shots from long range.
First Half
  • American had the game tied 10-10 early after a Kade Sebastian steal and Nausadis layup at 14:51.
  • It was a two-point game on a Mayock layup at 12:39, but the Eagles went cold for more than a six-minute stretch as the Revs took control.
  • With a 15-0 run that included a trio of three-pointers, GW took a 17-point, 33-16 lead at 7:30 of the half.

Second Half
  • There was no let-up from the Revs in the second half as they went 7-for-10 from beyond the arc and built a 30-point lead by the 12-minute mark.
  • While AU shot at an average clip of 46.7 percent from the field, GW hit 66.7 percent.
  • The Eagles continued to struggle with foul calls, getting 13 in the second half to GW's seven. 
  • For the game, fouls were 22-12 in favor of American.
