WASHINGTON – Former assistant coach and current AU professor Kevin Boyle raced the Marine Corps Marathon on Sunday (Oct. 26) to support AU track and cross country — and inspired the Eagle community to show their support.
"We are all so grateful and impressed with Kevin's commitment to the success of our student athletes on and off the track," said head coach
Sean Graham. "This challenge and the great results of it are just a small example of the unwavering support he has for our team. I'm thankful for his enthusiasm, care, and dedication to our athletes and the program. Thank you, Kevin!
"On top of that, a big thank you to everyone that stepped up to support this challenge by donating to the effort and thus the success of our program! We're all dealing with higher expenses than in the past, and that generosity even during those times is so greatly appreciated. It goes a very long way in helping us provide the highest level competitive experience for our team."
While Boyle ran, completing the 26.2-mile course in a time of 4:45:28, the American University community came together to raise $15,499 for the track and cross country program from 61 donors, including Boyle's own commitment of $2,600 — $100 per mile.
"I am very grateful for all the donations to our teams," Boyle said, "and I hope this is an inspiration for some more unique fundraising efforts."
