Women's Soccer Drops PL Road Game at Boston University

BOSTON - League-leading Boston University continued to dominate on Saturday afternoon, handing American University women's soccer a 6-0 Patriot League loss at Nickerson Field. It was the fourth straight shutout for the Terriers, who have now out-scored opponents 15-0 across those four contests.

Notable 
  • The Eagles came up with only a single shot on goal, taken by senior Phoebe Merrigan on a free kick in the 15th minute. The save by Bridget Carr was BU's lone save in the game.
  • Sophomore Addison Roemer made nine saves for AU and was subbed out for senior Elle McClary in the final 20 minutes.
  • McClary, making her first collegiate appearance, made the first save of her career with a minute left in the game.
How it Happened
  • BU scored its first goal in the seventh minute when Helene Tyburczy headed in a corner kick by Giulianna Gianino.
  • Eight minutes later, Merrigan posted the Eagles' best chance of the game on a free kick, but it was saved by Carr.
  • Gianino scored on a penalty kick in the 18th minute for a 2-0 BU lead.
  • Roemer made a strong save in the 24th minute on a direct free kick by the Terriers, but they added to their lead two minutes later.
  • In the 26th minute, Ava Maguire's shot was saved by Roemer, but the ball rebounded to the feet of Nina Tzouganatos who scored to put the Terriers up 3-0.
  • BU took a 4-0 lead in the 31st minute, holding that score through halftime.
  • Olivia Avellar scored off a Maguire assist two minutes into the second half, and Shayla Brown put in the sixth goal for BU in the 53rd minute off Maguire's second assist of the game.
