CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Two wrestlers from American University have advanced to the second and final day of the 2025 Southern Scuffle, after an opening day packed with action for the Eagles' 13 participants. Moving on will be No. 31 Will Jarrell at heavyweight, and Caleb Campos at 174 pounds.

Notable

• Jarrell went 2-0 at heavyweight on day one to earn his spot in tomorrow's semifinals. He won by decisions over wrestlers from UNC and Bellarmine.
• In tomorrow's semis, Jarrell will face No. 24 Lucas Stoddard of Army.
• The first match for Jarrell in the round of 16 saw him earn four near-fall points in an 8-1 decision over UNC's Nolan News.
• Jarrell later scored a takedown and three reversals in a 10-6 decision against Daulton Mayer of Bellarmine.
• Campos finished his opening day 3-1, starting with a 17-2 technical fall over Davidson's Bodie Morgan. Campos led 11-1 after the first period and needed less than two periods for the victory.
• Against Nolan O'Boyle of UNC in the round of 16, Campos led 5-0 after the first period and never looked back, winning by 11-3 major decision. 
• Campos came up against the No. 8 wrestler in the country, Oklahoma's Gavin Sax, in the quarterfinals, and lost 6-1 after holding Sax scoreless through two periods.
• To make it to day two, Campos rebounded decisively, beating Campbell's Riley Augustine in an 11-0 major-decision shutout thanks to a takedown in each period.
• Nearly making it to day two was grad student Jack Nies at 157 pounds, as he won his first two bouts before suffering two 4-1 losses.
• Nies trailed 4-1 against No. 29 Noah Castillo of Chattanooga before an escape in the third period and a takedown with four seconds to go for the 5-4 upset victory.
• Next up, Nies trailed Brohnson Baxter of Little Rock 4-3 before winning 15-6 by scoring four takedowns overall.
• At 125 pounds, Coen Bainey had a solid day, finishing 3-2. He scored an early takedown against Appalachian State's Bryson Terrell and held on for a 4-2 win in his first bout of the meet. 
• Bainey's only losses came against No. 23 Antonio Lorenzo of Oklahoma and No. 28 Keyveon Roller of Virginia. His other two wins were a 17-2 technical fall in the consolation round of 32, and an 11-0 major-decision over his opponent from Army in the first consolation round of eight.
