WASHINGTON - The American University wrestling team was unable take home the Chippewa Challenge trophy at Bender Arena this afternoon, but saw some standout individual performances throughout the day. The Eagles got the win over Central Michigan 21-13, but fell to CSU Bakersfield 28-9 and to eventual champion Campbell 18-14.
Raymond Lopez went 3-0 on the day with all three wins coming via major decision, while
Lucas White and #32
Will Jarrell followed with a pair of victories.
Notable
- Lopez's wins came at 10-2 over CSU Bakersfield's Santino Sanchez, 16-7 over Central Michigan's Vince Perez, and 13-4 over Campbell's Logan Heil. The junior posted 11 total takedowns on his dominant day.
- Lucas White knocked off #33 Adrien Kramer in an intense match, earning the bout-sealing point on a stall call in the final seconds.
- Jack Nies had AU's largest margin of victory on the day, a 19-3 technical fall against Bakersfield's Devyn Flores-Che after recording four takedowns in the bout.
- #32 Jarrell went 2-1 on the day, with two major decisions over Central Michigan's Bryan Caves (10-2), and Cambpell's Landon Sargent.
- The win over Central Michigan was AU's seventh dual victory of the year, and moves the Eagles' record to 7-6 overall.
