WASHINGTON - Thanks to a 15-1 major-decision victory for #33
Will Jarrell in the night's final bout, the American University wrestling team was able to complete a comeback to tie visiting Harvard and then get the win on criteria. The Eagles (6-3) and the Crimson (0-1) were tied 19-19 but after the points were counted, it was AU to come away with the 20-19 team dual win.
Notable
- Harvard led 16-3 after wins in four of the first five bouts before American came roaring back with wins in four of the final five.
- The Eagles and Crimson got one pin apiece, with AU's coming from #33 Caleb Campos at 174 pounds. He got his third pin of the year in 4:47 against Harvard's Haden Bottiglieri, putting AU within four after the Eagles had trailed by as many as 13.
- Raymond Lopez earned AU's first win of the night at 133 pounds, posting four takedowns in a 16-11 victory over Logan Brzozowski.
- The Eagles suffered close losses at both 141 and 149, but after 157 found themselves down 16-3.
- Redshirt freshman Kaden Milheim began the comeback effort with a 9-5 decision, and Campos continued it with his six-point pin.
- AU dropped one more at 184 to go down 19-12, setting up the dramatic finish.
- Holding on for a huge victory was senior Carsten Rawls at 197, winning 4-2 over Max Agresti. Rawls came strong and scored an early takedown, and never allowed one in return as he held on for a crucial three points.
- The final hero of the night was #33 Jarrell, who appeared to possibly have a technical fall near the end of the third period in a dominant performance, but had to settle for a 15-1 major decision over Hudson Skove.
- Point-counting took time, but the Eagles were announced as the winner on points, getting huge cheers from the crowd of over 600.
- The criteria used to decide the dual: most match victories (tied, 5-5), most falls (tied, 1-1), total match points scored in matches not ending in a fall (AU 54, Harvard 49).
