WASHINGTON - After nearly a month break since their last dual meet, American University wrestling returns to Bender Arena for duals against Harvard on Friday, January 17, and Army on Sunday, January 19. It will be AU's first dual meets at home in the new year, where they have a 2-1 record and most recently bested Buffalo 25-13 on December 6.
Hospitality Offerings
- AU Athletics is excited to introduce a new match day hospitality offering.
- In addition to the concessions menu from Gregorio's Trattoria, fans can now partake in a match-side (or courtside) hospitality offering featuring fun game day snacks and beverages, including a selection of beer, wine, and seltzers for purchase.

Inside the Series
- American is 5-0 against Harvard all-time, most recently topping the Crimson 22-19 in January of 2015.
- The Eagles will be looking for their second victory over Army in their ninth total matchup dating back to 2010. A win over the Black Knights would give AU their first in the EIWA this season as well.
What to Know about American
- Four Eagles placed in two different tournaments since AU's last dual meet -- R-Sr.Maximilian Leete and Jr. Raymond Lopez placed third and sixth at the F&M Open on January 10th, and Caleb Campos and Will Jarrell placed third and fifth at the Southern Scuffle on January 5th.
- Campos' dominant performance was headlined by an upset of #4 Lennox Wolak via pin at 1:44 after already holding an 11-2 lead over the former All-American. He added two technical falls and two major decisions, going 6-1 on the tournament and earning Gregorrio's Trattoria Student-Athlete of the Week honors. He holds a 13-5 record, with a team-leading four tech falls.
- Raymond Lopez moved up 14th in program history in career falls after recording his 13th at the F&M Open last weekend, tying Jason Grimes (2014-2017) on the all-time list.
- Lopez also leads American with five dual meet victories so far this season, while Caleb Campos, Coen Bainey, Cael McIntyre, and Kaden Milheim all have four.
- American is coming off a 24-21 loss at Navy on December 21st, which snapped a four-match winning streak. Raymond Lopez, Will Jarrell, and Lucas White all came up with pins for the Eagles in the strong performance
- American's last dual meet victory came against Davidson on December 15th, a commanding 25-9 win that saw them win seven of 10 bouts.
- The Eagles went 8-14 in dual meets last season, but 0-5 against EIWA opponents.
- The Eagles have four captains in 2024-25. Jarrell is serving in the role for the fourth year in a row, while Nies is a team captain for the second year in a row. Joining them are first-year team captains Leete, a senior, and Raymond Lopez, a junior.
What to Know about Harvard and Army
- Harvard is entering their first dual meet of the season, with five tournaments under their belt dating back to November 10.
- Senior Diego Sotelo enters Friday as the only ranked wrestler in the Intermat rankings on the Crimson's roster, sitting at 21. A season ago, Sotelo and junior Jack Crook qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
- The Crimson went 4-6 in dual meets in the 2024 season, putting five wrestlers through to the EIWA quarterfinals, two to the semifinals, and Crook made it all the way to the final and finished in 2nd place.
- Harvard Assistant Coach Muzaffar Abdurakhmanov will be returning to his alma mater on Friday. The former All-American became AU's first ever EIWA champion, taking the title in back to back seasons in 2005 and 2006.
- The Army Black Knights are 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the EIWA, earning a spot at 22 in the most recent Division I wrestling coaches' poll.
- Army comes into Friday with six ranked wrestlers in the Intermat rankings: #27 Ethan Berginic, #25 Richard Treanor, #13 Gunner Filipowicz, #31 Dalton Harkins, #30 Wolfgang Frable, #21 Lucas Stoddard.
- Sophomore Gunner Filipowicz won the Southern Scuffle title on January 5, earning USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week honors for his 6-0 performance.
