LANCASTER, Pa. - Maximilian Leete placed third and Raymond Lopez was sixth, both at 133 pounds, for American University wrestling at the Franklin & Marshall Open on Friday. The two got through without having to face each other, and Leete went 4-1 while Lopez was 4-2 for the day. Seven Eagles participated in the meet, which was not part of the team's official schedule.

Notable

• Leete pinned two opponents and scored a major decision against a third. He started his run with a win by fall in 2:14 against Campbell's Zader Phaturos, and he advanced to the quarterfinals after a 13-3 win over Hofstra's Gauge Shipp with three takedowns and two near-fall points.
• In his third match of the day, Leete earned a 10-7 victory over Draegan Orine of NC State that took him to the semifinals against Army's #24 Ethan Berginc.
• Leete and Berginc wrestled defensively through three periods and sudden victory before Berginc finally got the 3-2 win in a tiebreaker.
• In the third-place match, Leete took down Jacob Joyce of Brown immediately, and turned it into a win by fall in just 31 seconds.
• Leete, who is taking a redshirt season in 2024-25, is now 13-3 overall.
• Lopez's day began with a second-period pin of Hofstra's Chase Liardi, and he advanced to the quarterfinals with an 8-4 win against Air Force's Gavin Caprella.
• Coming up against Ohio State's Ben Davino in his third match of the day, Lopez lost by major decision. He rebounded with an 18-4 win by injury default, and then advanced to the fifth-place bout after a no-contest. 
• With Lopez and Rutgers' Mason Gibson tied 8-8, Gibson scored an escape in the final second of regulation to win 9-8 and take fifth place while Lopez got sixth.
• Freshman JJ Peace went 2-2 at 125 pounds, as did sophomore Cael McIntyre at 141 pounds.
• Senior Carsten Rawls posted three wins at 197 pounds, including a pin of teammate Liam Volk-Klos.
