BETHLEHEM, Pa. – American University men's basketball senior
Matt Rogers has been named to the Patriot League Academic All-League Team, the conference announced Wednesday.
Rogers, a two-time Academic Honor Roll member, is majoring in Business Administration, with a specialization in Marketing.
Named to the Patriot League's All-League First Team on Monday, Rogers led the Eagles with 16.4 points per game (third in the Patriot League) and 6.2 rebounds per game (fifth in the Patriot League). He was named Patriot League Player of the Week twice this season, and in January he became the 15th player in AU men's basketball history to score 1,000 points and record 500 rebounds. This season, Rogers is making 37 percent of his three-point attempts, and he has made twice as many threes this season as he had in his first three years at American combined.
Up next for the Eagles is a Patriot League Quarterfinal matchup with Bucknell at Bender Arena on Thursday, March 7, at 7 p.m. The Eagles have not hosted a quarterfinal game in the Patriot League Tournament since 2020.
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor. These honors recognize student-athletes who excel in their sport and the classroom.
