GREENSBORO, N.C. - With a time of 53.92 in the finals of the 100 fly, grad student
Mimi Watts placed seventh at the Toyota U.S. Open Championships to highlight three days of swimming for Watts and junior
Colin Clough at the national-level event.
Watts earned a seventh-place medal for the event, and moved up one spot from the prelims when she had placed eighth in 54.08. It was one of four events Watts competed in at the championships, and one of two in the same day.
On December 5, Watts placed fourth in the B final of the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.02, moving past a number of swimmers from the prelims after going 23.21 to place 17th. Following her 100 fly performance the next day, Dec. 6, Watts also raced in the 100 backstroke and finished 28th in the prelims in 56.71. On the final day, Dec. 7, Watts finished 22nd in the prelims of the 100 freestyle in 51.24.
Clough tied for 38th in the prelims of the 100 breaststroke with a time of 56.05.
The entire swim & dive team is off from competition until Saturday, Jan. 18, when the team will head to VMI for a quad meet.
