Wrestling Hosts Buffalo in Early Friday Afternoon Dual in Bender; iPhone Raffle and Pizza for Students

WASHINGTON - For the final time in the 2024 calendar year, American University wrestling will compete at home in Bender Arena on Friday, Dec. 6. The Eagles will host Buffalo in an early dual at 1 p.m., and are looking for their third straight win.

Giveaways for AU Students
  • There will be free pizza for AU students at Friday's 1 p.m. dual.
  • The wrestling program is also raffling an iPhone 16 Plus to one lucky student. You must be enrolled at American, and you must be present to win.
Parking Information
  • The Sports Center Garage is permit only parking Monday through Friday from 8am-5pm.
  • The Katzen Arts Center and School of International Service garages have hourly parking available for fans coming to the match on Friday.

  • American and Buffalo are facing each other for the first time in program history.
What to Know about American
  • American is coming off a pair of dominant wins in North Carolina last weekend, beating Duke 33-6 and Presbyterian 43-6. Eight AU wrestlers went 2-0 for the day.
  • Overall, AU posted three pins, four wins by technical fall, and five major decisions in the two NC duals.
  • Redshirt senior Jack Nies was named the Gregorio's Trattoria Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts, which included a tech fall win vs. Duke and a major-decision victory against Presbyterian.
  • Four Eagles earned victories in the team's season opener against Michigan State--redshirt freshman Coen Bainey at 125, senior Jack Maida at 141, sophomore Kaden Milheim at 165, and grad student Will Jarrell at heavyweight who all won by decision.
  • Nies, Milheim, and Liam Volk-Klos all lead AU with three dual meet victories so far this season.
  • The Eagles went 8-14 in dual meets last season, but 0-5 against EIWA opponents.
  • Jarrell led AU in pins last season with six, followed closely by Maximilian Leete (133) with five. Jarrell has 13 career pins and is tied for 13th all-time at AU.
  • The Eagles have four captains in 2024-25. Jarrell is serving in the role for the fourth year in a row, while Nies is a team captain for the second year in a row. Joining them are first-year team captains Leete, a senior, and Raymond Lopez, a junior.
