ANNAPOLIS, Md. - With a goal just 24 seconds into the second half, American University men's soccer set the tone for a scoring outburst that would lead to a 3-1 victory for the Eagles at Navy in the final game of the regular season. AU clinched the No. 3 seed in the League with the win, and will host No. 6 seed Loyola Maryland in a Patriot League quarterfinal on Saturday, Nov. 9.

- Junior Sebastian Garces, junior Troy Elgersma, and senior Sam Hershey were the goal-scorers for American.
- The goal was the first career tally for Garces, the seventh for Elgersma, and the 10th for Hershey.
- Navy took nine shots in the first half while AU registered zero, but only one of the Mids' shots was on target.
- Junior Matthew Tibbetts made a pair of big saves for American, getting one in each half.
- The Eagles fired 10 total shots in the second half, putting seven of those on goal.
- Senior Dilane Zouantcha tallied the only assist of the night, sending the ball to Elgersma for the Eagles' second goal.
How It Happened
- The first half was a stalemate, but Navy gave itself chances with nine total shots including one on goal.
- Tibbetts saved that shot with a diving catch, keeping the game scoreless with 13 minutes left in the opening half.
- The Eagles stunned the Mids right after play restarted in the second half, taking two shots on goal before a third was put in by Garces off a rebound just 24 seconds into the period.
- Seven minutes later, Zouantcha sent a pass over to Elgersma at the top of the box, who sent a strong, curving shot into the top right corner for a 2-0 lead.
- Navy took six shots in the second half including two on goal, and got the first of those to go in the 67th minute on a crossing shot by A.J. Schuetz.
- The Mids spent more time down the stretch on their offensive end, but Tibbetts punched out the only shot on goal.
- In the 84th minute, Hershey was awarded a penalty kick for American and sent it into the bottom right corner to regain the Eagles' two-goal lead.
- No shots were on target for either team in the final seven minutes of action.
