Volleyball's Win Streak Snapped by Patriot League Leader Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The seven-match win streak for American University volleyball was snapped on Saturday by Patriot League-leading Bucknell, as the Bison swept the Eagles in three sets on their home court. Bucknell improved to 11-1 in PL play, while AU drops to 10-3.

  • Junior Adelina Berisha led AU with 12 kills, also totaling eight digs.
  • Freshman Zedo Yilmaz posted 10 kills to go with seven digs, and contributed two blocks.
  • Freshman libero Bella Marrero led AU with 12 digs.
  • Senior middle blocker Lilou Stegeman recorded a team-high four blocks along with six kills and five digs.
How It Happened
  • Hitting errors plagued AU throughout the match, and the Eagles totaled 20 of them to Bucknell's 10.
  • The first set saw the Bison hit .400 with 15 kills and one error, while AU committed seven errors with just 12 kills and lost 25-20.
  • Sets two and three were similar for AU with seven errors and six errors, respectively. 
  • After a 9-9 tie in the second set, Bucknell took a lead and held it the rest of the way, closing with a 5-2 run to take it 25-19.
  • American had its best chance to extend the match in set three as Bucknell hit .211 to AU's .204.
  • The Eagles had set point at 24-23, but ultimately lost 27-25.
  • Yilmaz was her strongest in the third set with five kills, hitting .500, but Bucknell's Tijana Kostic and Sidney Shaffer combined for 11 kills to help Bucknell complete the sweep.
