Zemi Rodriguez helped lead American University men's soccer to a 4-1 Friday victory over the Temple University Owls. Junior

Robbie Matei netted the Eagles' two additional goals as American picked up its first win over the Owls since 1977.
QUICK NOTABLES
- Friday's game was the first matchup between the two squads since 1981. Temple came away victorious in the meeting, 1-0.
- Zountcha netted his first goal of the season, Matei's netted his second goal of the season, and Rodriguez recorded his first and second goals of the season.
- The last time the Eagles scored four goals in a game was in American's 4-2 win over Navy during the 2021 season in the Patriot League Tournament Semifinals.
- Rodriguez's two goals was the first multi goal game of his career.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles got on the board early, finding their first goal of the game in the fifth minute off a corner kick taken by Rodriguez, and sent into the back of the net by Zouantcha.
- In the 17th minute it was Rodriguez who netted his first goal of the game to put American up 2-0.
- Temple fired off three shots in the half but all were off target to keep the home team off the board.
- A yellow card given to the Owls in the 40th minute, set up penalty kick for the Eagles. Matei took the kick, sending the ball into the net to put American up 3-0.
- With just over a minute left to play in the first half, the game went into an almost two-hour rain delay due to lightning in the area.
- Temple took its first shot on goal of the game in the second half, but sophomore Matthew Tibbetts was there to make the save.
- Rodriguez then netted his second goal of the game in the 64th minute to put the score at 4-0 in favor of American.
- The Owls put on the pressure the rest of the second half, scoring in the 73rd minute after two corner kick opportunities, bringing the final score to 4-1.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Tibbets totaled five saves in his third start of the season.
- American held the 5-3 shots advantage in the first half, but the Owls held the 8-3 advantage in the second half.
- Only one card was handed out in the game, a yellow card to Temple.

- The Eagles will take a short break before returning to action on Saturday, Sept. 16 for the start of Patriot League play. The Eagles will open league action at Holy Cross.
