Swim & Dive Teams Post Strong Finishes at the Potomac Relay Invitational

WASHINGTON - Nine top-three finishes highlighted the opening meet of the season for the American University swimming & diving teams as the Eagles hosted four other teams in the annual Potomac Relay Invitational. As a team, AU finished third on the women's side and fourth on the men's.

NOTABLE
  • The women's team posted second-place finishes in four events including the 200 medley relay, the 800 freestyle relay, the 500 freestyle relay and the 2x500 freestyle relay.
  • Freshman Kate Williams was a part of all three of the second-place freestyle relays in her debut meet for the Eagles, while freshman Lian Jeong Engle was a part of the 200 medley and 500 freestyle relays. Senior Mimi Watts joined them on the 200 medley and 500 freestyle relay teams, while sophomore transfer Dylan Moulton was a part of the 800 freestyle and 500 freestyle relays. 
  • Senior Mallory Meister, who was part of the second-place 800 free relay, teamed up with Williams for the second-place finish in the 2x500 free relay.
  • Also included on those relay teams was junior Amaya Tomma and sophomore Grace Netz on the 200 medley, and sophomore Katie Yoo on the 800 free.
  • Sophomore Peyton Thurman had a strong showing in the diving events held at Georgetown, taking third place on both the 1-meter (207.85) and 3-meter (216.20). Senior Amanda Bosses was fifth on the 1-meter, and sophomore transfer Maggie Fanning was fifth on the 3-meter.
  • On the men's side, freshman Lucas Standridge and junior Seamus Brown teamed up for a third-place finish in the 2x500 freestyle relay.
NEXT UP
  • On Saturday, Sept. 30, the Eagles will welcome UMBC to Frailey Pool for the first dual meet of the season.
  • That meet is set for 11 a.m. and will be broadcast live through the American University Eagles YouTube account.
