Ethan Boyle Scores His Fourth Goal of the Season in Men's Soccer's Loss to Boston U.

WASHINGTON – Battling the wind and the rain, American University men's soccer fell to the Boston University Terriers, 2-1, on Saturday. After two quick first half goals by the Terriers, senior Ethan Boyle found the back of the net for American early in the second half, but it was not enough to complete the comeback as the Eagles picked up their first Patriot League loss of the season.
 
QUICK NOTABLES
  • Boyle has now recorded four goals this season. He has scored at least one goal in the last three games.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Tibbetts made two saves in goal. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Boston U. netted two quick goals to give them an early 2-0 lead. The Terriers' first goal came in the first minute of the game and their second came in the ninth minute.
  • The Terriers' defense was strong throughout the first half, only allowing the Eagles to take four shots the entire 45 minutes.
  • Senior Evan Schweickert and junior Sam Hershey looked as if they were going to find the back of the net for American with seconds left to play in the half, but both shots were stopped by the visiting goalkeeper.
  • Just minutes into the second half, it was Boyle who found the back of the net for the Eagles to cut the Terriers' lead in half.
  • The Eagles continued to break through the Terriers' defense in the second half, maintaing control of the game and taking shot after shot, but none of their shots could find the back of the net as Boston U. secured the win

  • The Eagles led the Terriers in shots, 13-8, while the Terriers led in shots on goal, 5-3.
  • American held Boston U. to just two shots in the second half.
