Women’s Hoops Falls to Bucknell in Midweek Matchup

WASHINGTON – Despite another standout performance from Lauren Stack with 18-points, the American University women's basketball team (6-19, 5-9 PL) dropped their midweek contest to the visiting Bucknell (12-13, 8-6 PL).
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Stack led the Eagles for the second game in a row and earned 18 points to match her career high. The senior forward also had four steals and three boards.
  • Emily Johns and Ivy Bales followed up Stack with 11 and 10 points respectively. Bales also had eight rebounds and four assists.
  • The Bison were led by Emma Theodorsson with 16. Remi Sisselman and Eamma Shaffer each had 12 to follow Emma Shaffer got a double-double with her 12-point 21-rebound performance. She contributed to the Bison's 36-30 advantage on the boards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was the Eagles defense that was the star of the first few minutes of the game, American held Bucknell scoreless from the floor until the 6:24 mark. Meanwhile, the Eagles accumulated six points of their own to lead by two.
  • At the media timeout, the Eagles were leading 8-4, but the Bison had the edge in rebounding 6-4.
  • Through one, the teams were knotted at 11. Bucknell still held a rebounding advantage 11-9. Bales led for American with six points of her own.
  • Starting off the second quarter though, the Bison jumped ahead when they got two triples in a row before their run was cut into by Kayla Henning with a two. Bucknell had a distance advantage in the frame, draining three three pointers in the period alone.
  • Heading into the break, Bucknell grabbed a 2-point jumper with one second remaining to hold a seven-point lead over the Eagles. Bales was still leading the charge for the Eagles with eight first half points. She also had four rebounds and two assists.
  • Molly Lavin was the leader on the boards for the Eagles in the first half but received her third foul a minute before the half. On the glass, the Eagles were outrebounded 21-16.
  • Coming out of halftime, the visitors surged ahead. At the 6:24 mark, Bucknell had outscored American 9-2 to hold a 14-point lead of 25-39.
  • The fourth period began with Bucknell maintaining their heavy lead, up over the Eagles 36-50. They had three players in double-digits before the quarter began and Emma Shaffer had 17 rebounds heading into the final frame with a double-double already.
  • At the media timeout with 6:02 left in the game, the Eagles still found themselves behind 42-56.
  • The final period the Eagles improved on the boards, leading the period 8-5, and winning the period in points, 16-14, but not recovering enough to come back and push Bucknell. In the end, the Bison claimed the game 52-64.
