GREENSBORO, N.C. - It was a strong week of competition for senior swimmer
Mimi Watts at the Toyota U.S. Open Championships, as she competed in the event for the third time against the top swimmers in the country. Watts raced in both the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly in long course meters, and advanced to the "C" final in the 100 fly.
Though not advancing in the 50 free, Watts did swim a lifetime best long course meters time of 26.20 in the event, which earned her second place in her heat. One day later, her time of 1:00.73 was good enough to win her heat in the 100 fly and move her through to the finals. She concluded her appearance at the national meet with a 1:00.64 in the finals of the 100 fly, taking fifth in the "C" final.
Watts and the entire team will return to competition on Saturday, Jan. 13 for the Senior Day meet against VMI.
