Mimi Watts Sets School Record For Swim & Dive at Navy Quad Meet

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - It was a busy two days of competition for American University men's and women's swimming & diving, as the Eagles traveled for both a tri and a quad meet. AU came up short against its quad meet rivals Navy, Bucknell and Lafayette, but saw individual successes including a new school record for senior Mimi Watts.

The meet was highlighted by Watts winning the 100 butterfly in 55.06 and setting a new school record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.67. Watts, who has rarely competed in the backstroke in competition, beat Caylee Watson's 55.21 from the 2017 Patriot League Championship, making this her ninth school record in her four years at AU.
Freshman Lian Jeong Engle placed second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.15, her fastest this season. Later in the meet, she placed fourth in the 100 freestyle with a season-best 52.97.
Watts, Jeon Engle, Dylan Moulton and Isabel McGovern also placed second in the final relay, the 200 free, with a time of 1:36.21 which is the foursome's second-fastest time in the event this year.
Sophomore transfer Maggie Fanning hit her lifetime bests during both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. On the 1-meter she scored 205.10 and on the 3-meter she scored 208.45.
In the 400 IM, sophomore Katie Yoo had a strong swim and took fourth place in 4:36.50, just shy of her personal best.
Freshman Lucas Standridge placed seventh in the 200 freestyle with a season-best 1:44.97.
Another freshman, Henry Bysshe, swam his season best with a time of 53.81 in the 100 backstroke, taking eighth and making him the fastest in the event this season for the Eagles.
Senior Will Timme swam his season best in the 100 breaststroke in 59.41 which also makes him AU's fastest in that event this season.
Senior Nick Buckley placed third in the 50 freestyle in 21.04. Buckley later posted the fastest 100 freestyle for the Eagles this season, taking sixth in 47.08.
Senior Carlos Cordero took fifth in the 500 freestyle.
The foursome of Buckley, Connor Florence, Aidan Delehanty and Caleb Farris went their fastest time this season with a 1:24.54 in the 200 freestyle relay.
