WASHINGTON – A resurgent second half for the Revolutionaries saw the American University women's basketball team fall 59-69 in the first crosstown rivalry match-up of the season when it took on George Washington on Wednesday evening.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Anna LeMaster led the charge for the Eagles with 18 points. The senior also had five rebounds, leading for AU on the glass with Molly Lavin following with four.
- Of LeMaster's four field goals, three came from beyond the arc. She also went a perfect 7-7 from the charity stripe to grab her career-high points total.
- Forward Emily Johns had another good outing for American on the evening, totaling up 12 points and grabbing a block and a steal.
- Ivy Bales went 4-4 from the field, including one triple, but the senior ended up in foul trouble, picking up her fourth with 5:03 remaining in the contest. She finished with nine points. Bales also had two assists, steals, and rebounds.
- The Revolutionaries were led in scoring by Nya Lok with 19 points and Essence Brown with 15. Maren Durant led the charge on the glass for GW with eight rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- LeMaster got the scoring started for both teams with a three pointer sunk two minutes into the game.
- Low scoring first period, but the Eagles had an 14-8 lead with five Eagles getting in on the scoring and some solid defensive plays on the host side of the court. AU held the 10-7 advantage in rebounds.
- In the second, the Revolutionaries came from behind, tying the score a 19-all with 4:42 left in the half and forcing the Eagles to turn up the heat.
- Johns finished the first half with eight points and LeMaster, who had a big time steal on one side of the court and then got the and-1 on the other, tallied 10 to lead the squad. She also led in rebounds with three.
- Kayla Henning came alive in the second frame as well, scoring four of her six with less than six to play before the break.
- Coming out of halftime, the Revolutionaries fired back, tying it up in two minutes off two Eagles turnovers, two buckets, and two free throws and forcing a timeout called by AU.
- GW would keep pressing though, using the home court advantage for all it was worth, jumping out to a five point 37-42 lead with 4:11 to go in the third period.
- By the end of the third, the Revolutionaries had pushed to a seven point lead, up 43-50 thanks to 57.1% shooting from the floor going 8-14, including three triples, over the Eagles 6-16, with just one falling from distance.
- In the fourth, GW stretched the lead to 10, and held on to it, still up by nine at 56-65 with 1:50 left to go.
- In the end, it came down to a game of time outs and free throws, with the Revolutionaries claiming the 59-69 victory over the Eagles.

The Eagles are back out on the road to face off with the Spiders of Richmond University on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. Then, they will be back in Bender Arena to take on George Mason on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 1 p.m.
