Men’s Soccer Falls to Loyola Maryland in Regular Season Finale; Earns Sixth Seed in PL Tournament

BALTIMORE, Md. – American University men's soccer could not stop Loyola University Maryland's offense Wednesday night, as the Eagles fell to the Greyhounds in the regular season finale. Junior Sam Hershey netted the Eagles' lone goal in the game.
 
QUICK NOTABLES
  • Hershey's goal was his sixth of the season. He is now tied with senior Ethan Boyle for the team lead.
  • Junior Zemi Rodriguez recorded the assist on Hershey's goal, marking his fifth assist of the season. 
  • American earned the sixth seed in the 2023 Patriot League Tournament. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Loyola Maryland took an early lead, finding the back of the net in the first five minutes of the game to go up 1-0.
  • Boyle had the Eagles first two shots of the game in the 17th minute and 19th minute but both shots were off target.
  • Rodriguez had a chance to score for American at the end of the first half, but he sent the ball over the top of the goal to send the game into halftime with the home team up 1-0.
  • The Greyhounds added another goal in the 57th minute to take a 2-0 lead.
  • Hershey found the back of the net for American in the 79th minute to cut the Greyhounds lead in half.
  • The Eagles had chances in the final minutes, being awarded four corner kicks, but none found the back of the net as the Greyhounds secured the Wednesday win.

  • The Greyhounds held the slight 6-5 shots on goal advantage.
  • American held the 8-3 corner kick advantage, taking seven of the eight in the second half.
