#23 Field Hockey Drops Close Game to #12 Harvard

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The #23 Eagles (3-3) were back in action on a rainy Sunday morning at the Terrapin Invite against #12 Harvard (2-2), and fell to the Crimson 3-2. American's goals came from sophomore Federica Turina Dellamaggiore in the 25th minute and Alexa Kratz in the 41st minute. Harvard claimed their first lead of the game in the 54th minute to consequently win the game.

QUICK NOTABLES
  • Junior goalkeeper Bryn Underwood had eight saves in the contest to keep the game competitive.
  • Turina Dellamaggiore's goal was her first since the hat trick she scored against Central Michigan in August.
  • First year Lotta Curanz earned her third assist in as many games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nothing was going for either team in the first quarter, each team holding the other to just one shot and one save apiece.
  • It was American that struck first in a similar style to their first goal on Friday evening against New Hampshire; Curanz took a penalty corner that was stopped by junior Emily Horace and sent into the goal by Turina Dellamaggiore to put AU up 1-0 heading into halftime.
  • After the break, while up an athlete as Frederiek Thierry sat out on a green card, the Crimson capitalized in the 33rd minute to knot the game at 1-1.
  • The 41st minute of the game saw quite a bit of action when Kratz scored a goal as a result of a penalty stroke and then just 40 seconds later, Harvard equalized at 2-2 while down an athlete to a green card.
  • In the fourth quarter, with six minutes left to play, the Crimson took their first lead of the game to eventually win the contest 3-2, narrowly defeating the Eagles.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Harvard was given two green cards and a yellow card during the contest while American received three green cards and a yellow.
  • Harvard to 11 shots on goal to American's five and had the edge in penalty corners as well, topping AU 5-4.
UP NEXT
  • Up next for the Eagles, they open Patriot League play away against Lafayette in Easton, Pa., on Saturday, September 17 at noon.
  • After that, they're back at home on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 11 a.m. against Colgate.
