EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State came out hot, taking the lead two minutes into the game and then carrying a 3-0 lead into the fourth quarter to top the American University Eagles, 3-1, in their 2022 season opener. Senior forward

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Spartans had the first opportunity to find the back of the goal in the second minute of play and capitalized on it to take the quick 1-0 lead.
- Shaw had the first shot of the game for the Eagles at the end of the first quarter but sent it just wide and MSU was able to keep their edge.
- Michigan State added two more, one right before the half, and one right after, to carry a 3-0 lead into the fourth and final quarter.
- Julia Kraft, with an assist from fellow senior Megan Hoffman, scored in the forty-eighth minute of the game to put AU on the board, 3-1.
