WASHINGTON – After weather delayed the start of American University men's soccer's season opener, the Eagles eventually battled to a 0-0 draw with the University of North Carolina Wilmington to start the 2022 season.  
 
QUICK NOTABLES

• Freshmen Troy Elgersma, Tim Schliemann, and Toshi Davis all made their collegiate debuts on Thursday with Schliemann and Elgersma earning the starting nod.   
• Junior Lorenzo Gordon, senior Damian Searchwell, senior Mike Bleeker and senior Nicholas Shirley each played all 90 minutes of action.
• Gordon recorded his first clean sheet of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• After weather came through the area delaying the start of the game, the two sides traded shots to try to find their way on the scoreboard first.
• Neither the Eagles or the Seahawks could find a way to break through the opposing sides defense in the first 45 minutes of action sending the game into halftime tied 0-0.
• The Seahawks had a chance in the 53rd minute of action to take the lead but the shot was saved by Gordon to keep the game scoreless.
• A few minutes later, sophomore Dilane Zouantcha had the Eagles' lone chance of the second half to take the lead but his shot went just over the top left of the goal. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• The Eagles held the corner kick advantage, 6-5.
• The Seahawks led in shots and shots on goal with seven and four, respectively. 
• After the Seahawks took five shots in the first half, the Eagles' defense stepped up in the second half and allowed just two shots. 

UP NEXT

• Up next for the Eagles is their first road test of the season as they are set to travel to Norfolk, Va. to take on Old Dominion University on Sunday, August 28. Game time is slated for 6 p.m.
• They will then return home on Friday, September 2 for a 4 p.m. game with George Mason University.
