WASHINGTON - Freshman Jack Maida made it a 2-0 weekend at 133 pounds for American University wrestling, but wins in only two weight classes had the Eagles come up well behind in their final regular season dual against No. 19 Penn. The Quakers, an EIWA opponent, won at every weight class other than 133 and 285 and beat the Eagles 36-7.

Notable 

• Maida (133) got the scoring started early in his bout against Blair Orr with a first-period takedown, and never trailed.
• With two escape points to match a takedown by Orr in the second period, Maida went into the third up 4-2. With nearly two minutes of riding time, he came away with the 5-2 decision.
• The win for Maida was his second of the weekend after a 4-3 decision over Maryland's King Sandoval on Saturday. Sandoval is the NCAA pins leader with 11 in 2021-22.
• At 174 pounds, Tim Fitzpatrick had his seven-match win streak snapped in the dual with a loss to #20 Nick Incontrera. He started a new streak with a 9-3 win vs. Penn's Michael Kistler in an extra countable match following the dual.
• AU's heavyweight Isaac Righter jumped out to a 2-0 lead with an early takedown and never looked back, ultimately beating Nate Hoaglund 8-0.
• On his Senior Day, Ben Root had a great finish in an extra countable match against Cam Connor. Root turned a takedown into a pin at 1:53 into the bout at 174 pounds. The fall is the 11th of Root's career, moving him up into a tie for 14th all-time in program history.
• Also honored prior to the match, along with Root, were seniors Fitzpatrick and Cole Painter. All three finish as four-year wrestlers with the program.
